About The Event

Ceramic Altar is an adult studio class that explores the idea of the altar through a modern lens, focusing on personal meaning, design, and material exploration. Participants will examine how contemporary artists use altar-like forms to organize objects, express values, and create spaces for reflection within everyday life. Brief visual references and discussion will provide context for how altars have evolved from traditional and historical uses into modern artistic practices.

Using hand-building techniques, participants will design and construct a small ceramic altar or platform that reflects their own interests, routines, or symbolic objects. Emphasis will be placed on form, balance, surface, and intention, encouraging thoughtful decision-making rather than technical perfection. This class offers a calm, process-focused experience where clay becomes a tool for both learning and creative expression. No prior ceramics experience is required; all materials are provided.

THIS CLASS WILL MEET BACK ON MARCH 14TH AT 9AM FOR GLAZING
