The practice of drawing encompasses many different skills that assist the artist in everything from making preliminary sketches and developing ideas, to the creation of drawings that stand alone as finished works of art. Learning to really see one’s surroundings accurately and thoroughly is key to the creation of effective drawings. During this one-day workshop for adults, we will concentrate on value studies.

Mr. Larrison Seidle, instructor of art at Iowa Central Community College, will teach this intriguing workshop at the Blanden this spring. Drawing will be the dominant method in this mixed media class. Participants are encouraged to use photographs, magazine cut-outs, and various found and colored papers as collage material. Students may also use pencil, charcoal, conte crayon, brush and ink, soft or oil pastels and watercolor wash as they create their individual compositions.

Create your own unique, wearable silk art in one session. Pam Sanders’ class in silk painting has become a popular just-before-Christmas tradition at the Blanden that we all look forward to. What a great time to chase away the winter blahs and make something new for yourself or to give as a gift! Pam has a wealth of experience as an art instructor for all ages, and is a working artist in both silks and printmaking.

Carmon Slater is a multi-talented artist, interior designer, landscape designer, art curator, and naturalist. He paints floor cloths that are works of art on canvas, unique window coverings, and has been creating quilts for over twenty-five years. Working in his Winds Reach Design Studio, he begins with color swatches, paint chips, color photographs and consultations for each project.
